THE RUTHERFORD APPLETON LABORATORY, UK

The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory has a staff of around 1200 who support the work of over 10000 scientists and engineers, mainly from the university research community. Its main facilities enable research into new materials and structures, for example from battery electrolytes to turbine blades, X-ray laser research, space-based astronomy, the co-ordination of particle physics and many other topics.

IISIS:

ISIS is the world's leading pulsed neutron and muon source located at the UK Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. ISIS supports an international community of around 1600 scientists who use neutrons and muons for research in physics, chemistry, materials science, geology, engineering and biology.

Gas Detector PV analysis:

CCLRC commissioned FEA Online to conduct a pressure vessel (PV) analysis of a neutron detector vessel, located at one of the ISIS accelerator target stations. The FE analysis required the inclusion of bolt pre-tension and contact for which ABAQUS FE software is ideally suited.

David McPhail, ISIS Project Engineering Group:

"Thank you for your attention to the details on this job and for your comments and suggestions.  The service has surpassed my expectations and to my relief, has far surpassed my line management's. The web site looked to be an excellent way of picking up results and reviewing the latest progress".
