ALARIS Medical UK Limited is the International office of ALARIS Medical Systems, Inc., based in Basingstoke, UK. This facility includes: Research & Development, Manufacturing and International Sales and Marketing Teams.

Product design and strength assessment has traditionally been based around experience and relied on empirical calculations techniques followed by physical testing. With more and more intricate moulded components being used, traditional techniques have proved insufficient to capture the complex stress fields. This combined with operating overloads has led to a failure on a pressure disk holder with two slender locating arms

FEA Online were requested to carry out an FE Analysis of a proposed new design to confirm its integrity.

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this engineering analysis project is therefore two-fold:

• To analyse the existing pressure disc holder using finite element analysis FEA techniques, applying both operating and extreme boundary conditions to replicate the failure mode.
• Using the same analysis techniques, assess the proposed modified pressure disc holder design and identify any improvement over the original holder design.
