Specific experience include some of the following projects:

LR5 RESCUE SUBMARINE MODIFICATIONS:
The LR5 craft, which costs almost £8m, can attach itself to larger submarines and transfer 16 crew at a time. The operating team of pilots, engineers and technicians are employed by James Fisher Defense Ltd to maintain and upgrade the rescue systems based at Renfrew. The main assets
of the rescue service are a remotely operated vehicle, the Scorpio 45, and the LR5 submersible vehicle to carry rescue divers down to a distressed submarine,
rescue the survivors and bring them back to safety. The rescue service remains
on permanent standby and is ready to mobilise to any site worldwide within 12
hours.

FEA Online were commissioned to conduct modifications to the lifting harness, designed to lift the LR5 to/from the mothership, the Normand Pioneer (see below). All analysis was conducted to conform with internationally recognised standards such as LAME.

NORMAND PIONEER, LIFTING 'A' FRAME MODIFICATIONS:
FEA Online were selected by Melbourne Marine Services to conduct an analysis of the lifting 'A' frame modifications on the Normand Pioneer, the mother ship used in the Kursk submarine rescue attempt. the modification was made in order to accommodate a new trawler chain drum used for cable laying.
OFFSHORE AND MARINE STRUCTURES (GENERAL):
- Detailed design and FE analysis of several ships structures to optimise load transfer onto existing steelwork. Working to very short lead-times.
- Structural FE Analysis of risers and sub-sea structures to international codes of practice.
- Dynamic and static assessment of semi-submersible vessels for Lloyds approval.
- Non-linear ultimate load analysis of marine hulls.
- Numerical analysis of offshore pipe flanges, wye and tee pieces.
